Rocky Top Claims The Top Of NCAA Baseball

Rocky climbed to the top in Omaha as the Tennessee Volunteers took down the Texas A&M Aggies 6-5 to win the first baseball championship in school history. 

The tradition, pageantry, atmosphere of the College World Series in downtown Omaha came to a close Monday night with the Volunteers winning a tense game with the Aggies. A Christian Moore solo shot in the bottom of the first opened up the scoring for the Volunteers. A&M was able to respond with scoring a run off an RBI single in the top of the third. 

Tennessee responded by tripling their money in the bottom of the third, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third to make it 3-1 after three innings. 

The teams settled in for the next three and a half innings trading goose eggs until Tennessee opened up the game in the bottom of the seventh with a two run home run and an RBI double to make it 6-1, Volunteers. 

Texas A&M fought back in the top of the eight scoring two while having the tying run up to bat, but the incredible pitching of Kirby Connell sat down the Aggies to set up for a ninth inning to remember. 

Facing their final three outs the entirety of the baseball world rose to the edge of their seats with Texas A&M platting two runs in the top of the ninth. With the tying run up to bat closer Aaron Combs struck out the final two Aggies to set off a celebration in Omaha with the Volunteers winning 6-5. 

Tennessee had six runs in 13 hits with two home runs. Their pitching staff allowed 14 hits with 13 strikeouts.

Texas A&M had five runs on 14 hits with two doubles. Their pitching staff allowed 13 hits while striking out six.
