Running Stop Sign Leads To Drug And Weapon Charges

Jaylon Jackson

A Rapid City man is behind bars after a weekend traffic stop in Chadron ended with the discovery of cocaine and a stolen firearm.

20-year-old Jaylon Jackson remains in the Dawes County jail on charges of possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a stolen firearm. His bail is $100,000.

Chadron Police Chief Rick Hickstein says an officer stopped Jackson just after midnight Sunday for failing to stop at a stop sign. When he approached the car, he smelled the odor of marijuana coming from inside.

The vehicle was then searched with a loaded pistol found under the driver’s seat that proved to have been stolen in South Dakota.

After the car was towed to the police department for further processing, a bag with suspected cocaine, a digital scale, and packaging materials were found in the trunk.

Jackson had no identification on him, raising the possibility he gave authorities a fake name. Both Chief Hickstein and Sheriff Karl Dailey are asking anyone who recognizes Jackson and knows him by another name to contact either of their agencies and pass along that name or names.
