Scottsbluff held off twin city rival Gering by a single stroke, 341-342, to claim both the Western Conference championship and the Chadron Invitational title at Ridgeview Country Club on Thursday.
The individual race was just as thrilling as Mitchell’s Cael Peters earned the top spot with a 77, a stroke ahead of Scottsbluff’s Austin Thyne.
Chase Olson was Chadron’s lone golfer inside the top 10 with his round of 84, good enough for 7th. The Cardinals three other scoring rounds all fell under 90 as Shawn Schremmer shot an 87 and Jacksyn Behrends and Trey Hendrickson had matching rounds of 89.
Chadron was eight strokes out of 1st with their 2nd best team score of the season, a 449.
Chadron is off until Wednesday at the Gering Invite.
