SE Nebraska Bus Crash Sends 9 Students To The Hospital

Loading

The Nebraska State Patrol says 9 students received minor injuries around 7:30 this morning when their school bus was rear-ended by a pickup on Hwy 2 about 25-miles southeast of Lincoln and a mile east of Palmyra.

Spokesman Cody Thomas says the preliminary crash investigation shows the westbound bus was slowing to turn into a driveway when the pickup behind the bus failed to slow down.

The pickup hit the rear of the bus, which rolled onto its side. State troopers, Otoe County Sheriff’s Deputies, and rescue crews from Palmyra, Douglas, Syracuse, and Nebraska City all responded.

Thomas says all 9 students on the bus, ages 5-to-14, were taken to Bryan Health Center West Campus in Lincoln, where they were reunited with their parents. Both drivers were also taken to the hospital, also with non-life-threatening injuries.

The State Patrol investigation into the crash is ongoing with no citations issued at this time.
