Season Ends For Regulators In American Legion State Tourney

Loading

The season came to an end Monday for the Sheridan County Security First Regulators as they lost twice at the American Legion Class C Seniors State Tournament in Rushville, 9-5 to Imperial and 10-2 to Wilber.

The loss to Imperial was the resumption of a Sunday night game halted by the weather. Sheridan County was up 5-3 and batting in the top of the 5th when the game was stopped, but Imperial scored 3 in both the 5th and 6th for the win

That dropped the Regulators into an elimination game in the afternoon against Wilber. They scored a run in the top of the 1st, but Wilber got 2 in the bottom of the inning and never lost the lead.

They made it 4-1 after 3 innings and 5-1 after 4. Sheridan County got a run back in the 5th to close to 5-2, but Wilber scored 5 times in the 6th to win on the run rule.

The Regulators had almost as many errors – 4 – as hits – 5 – while Wilber played errorless ball and swatted 9 hits.

Wilber now plays Malcolm, the last undefeated team after handing Imperial its first loss of the postseason 8-5, holding Imperial scoreless over the final 5 innings.

Today’s other game has DCB (Dannebrog-Cairo-Boelus) against Imperial. DCB smashed Lincoln Lutheran 10-0 in 5 innings, giving up just 1 hit.
