Loading

The second presentation in this fall’s Graves Lecture Series at Chadron State College is tonight as poet and CSC creative writing professor Dr Haesong Kwon talks about the power of poetry.

It’s free and open to the public at 7:00 in the Sandoz Center.

Dr Kwon’s titled his presentation “Poems that Can Drive a Fully Grown Human to Sob Uncontrollably” and will read several of his favorite poems that evoke powerful, emotional responses

He says the program is for those who believe in the power of a good cry and those who haven’t yet given up on the power of the written word to evince complicated, salvific truths.”

Kwon, who joined the CSC faculty last year, will also talk about the challenges of composing poems in English as a second-language learner as well as about persuasive line breaks in poetry, and human tears as a response to moments in literature.

When Kwon joined the CSC faculty last fall, he said his colleagues in the English department impressed him as dedicated teachers and researchers.
