Thursday afternoon, U.S. Senator Pete Ricketts (R-NE) issued the following statement commenting on the apparent death of Hamas terrorist leader Yahya Sinwar:

โ€œYahya Sinwar was one of the worldโ€™s most wanted terrorists. He directed Hamasโ€™ October 7th terror attack that murdered 1,195 innocent people โ€“ including 46 Americans,โ€ Ricketts stated. โ€œHe also sacrificed countless Palestinian lives in pursuit of his desire to wipe Israel off the map. Today, Israel brought him to justice and the world is a safer place as a result.โ€

Just before 11AM MDT, Israel confirmed via DNA testing that Sinwar had been killed. Although many believe this is a step towards the warโ€™s end, concerns still linger about remaining hostages in Gaza.

Hamas militants kidnapped approximately 250 people and killed 1,200 during their attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023. Many were released in a weeklong cease-fire deal last November, but about 100 remain inside Gaza, about a third of whom are believed to be dead.
