By Senator Tom Brewer
This past week I was once again fortunate enough to participate in the Governorโs Pine Ridge Turkey Hunt. This is the sixth year Iโve been able to join with a number of my fellow Senators and the Governor, and showcase the hospitality and beauty of Northwest Nebraska.
This hunt was first organized in the early 1990s by a group of Chadron area hunting and economic development enthusiasts. The idea was to offer a fun and inviting way to bring business, government, and elected officials together and educate them about all the great opportunities in this beautiful part of our state.
The Chadron Community Foundation is a private 501 (c) 3 charitable corporation to promote the development of charitable, educational, cultural projects and other activities in and around the City of Chadron, Nebraska. The committee that makes this hunt possible isnโt paid. Theyโre all local volunteers. I want to thank Governor Pillen, as well as US Senator Pete Ricketts and my fellow state senators who joined us; Speaker John Arch, Senators Murman, Lowe, Erdman, Clements and Dorn.
The most essential component of this program are the 25+ land owners who are willing to host and guide the hunters. We couldnโt ask for a better group of Nebraska ambassadors who generously give of their time and hospitality to make this all work. They are always so welcoming and gracious, bringing us into their homes and ranches. We get to see the real heart of Pine Ridge country, touring land holdings off the beaten path few citizens ever get a chance to appreciate. They patiently guide everyone, taking the time needed for the โmarksmanship-challengedโ politicians to bag their birds. Their hearts are just as beautiful as this part of the state, and I cannot thank them enough. My favorite part of the hunt is being reminded how lucky I am to live in and represent this part of Nebraska.
In other news, I want people to be aware of a farewell event I am planning in Thedford. I want to thank the people of the 43rd District (both the 2017 district and the current one) We will meet Saturday night the 19th of October at the Thomas County Fairgrounds on the north side of Thedford. This event begins at 6:00pm and is open to the public. I wish to recognize the greatest citizens a Nebraska state senator could ever hope to represent. I encourage everyone to please join us. Food and beverages will be provided.
