Portions of northwest Nebraska and southwest South Dakota saw severe weather move through the area on Monday afternoon.
The National Weather Service offices out of both Rapid City and Cheyenne issued their first storm warnings around 2:15 pm for thunderstorms that included a reported 71 miles per hour wind gust at the Chadron airport. Further north 60 miles per hour winds were recorded on the Nebraska/South Dakota state line.
Any damage caused by the winds is not known at this time.
Less than a tenth of an inch of rain fell in Chadron at the Chadrad studios while the SWANN landfill site northwest of Chadron reported two inches of wind driven rain, which has led to the site being closed on Tuesday, along with marble sized hail.
Severe weather was also expected to be a factor in south central Nebraska on Monday where the region was placed under a tornado watch.
