Sheridan County Fair Closing, Dawes County Fair Ramping Up

       The Sheridan County Fair wraps up its 2021 season tonight, but there’s a pretty busy schedule for the day.

       It begins with a Cowboy Breakfast in the Gordon City Park at 7:00 and the annual Fair Parade through downtown Gordon at 10:00 with the theme “The Tradition Lives On.”  

      In between is the start of a quilt show that runs from 9-4:00 downton on Main Street next to Daylight Donuts. 

      The Rancher Olympics takes over the McGinley Arena at 1:00, then gives way to the final PRCA Rodeo session at 7:00. 

      The fair ends with this year’s second Rodeo Concert, this one by country music singer-songwriter Brad Morgan.

      The Dawes County Fair is just starting to pick up speed. Today has the 4-H Working Ranch and Performance Horse Show at 8:00 and the 4-H Hippology Challenge Contest from 8-1:00

      There’s entertainment tonight starting at 5:00 –  the Dawes County Fair Board Hog Wrestling with a Pig Wrangler Auction.

       Tomorrow is the induction ceremony for the Dawes County Ag Hall of Fame at 2:00 at the Grandstand with a reception for the honorees at 4:00

       Being recognized this year are Bob Delsing of Hemingford, John and Kim Madsen of Chadron and Alan and Debbie Soester of Crawford. The great-grandfathers of Delsing, Kim Madsen and Alan Soester all homesteaded in Dawes County in the 1880s.  

     Also being recognized at that time are Extra Miler Award winner Scott Roberts and three recipients of the Upper Niobrara White NRD Conservation Award: WadeAnderson, Rick Arnold, and Lucinda Mays. 

     There’s lawnmower racing from the local lawnmower racing association at 3:00 on the North 40 Track north of the Grandstand and an antique tractor pull at 4:00 in the arena at the Grandstand.
