The Black Hills National Forest has opened the Sheridan Lake Day-Use Area (South Beach) once again. The construction project initially planned for the beach and picnic sites is no longer scheduled for the winter months. The Forest and Forest Recreation Management (FRM) are rescheduling the work for the late summer or early fall seasons.
Those recreating during the winter can park their vehicles in the day-use parking lot near the south beach. Ben Schumacher, Mystic Ranger District Recreation and Lands Staff Officer, said, “Since the original project is being rescheduled for a later date, the Forest wanted to open the area in time for the holiday weekend and to provide easier access to the lake for those ice fishing.”
For those that enjoy recreating at the Sheridan Lake Day-Use Area, please be advised that the site will close when the construction project starts later in the year. No definitive date is planned, and more information will be shared during the late summer.
