The Sidney girls snagged a put back basket within the late moments of the 4th quarter and survived three Chadron opportunities at the win in a 44-43 victory on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
The Red Raiders held a two point lead at the end of both the 1st and 2nd quarters, but the Cardinals outscored Sidney 10-2 in the 3rd for a 31-25 lead heading to the final quarter.
Demi Ferguson had a game high 14 points for Chadron. Three players tallied eight for Sidney.
The Chadron boys closed to within five of Sidney in the early 4th quarter but Sidney ended the game on a 24-6 run to down the Cardinals 58-35.
Sidney kept Chadron at arms length most of the game holding a 10 to 14 point lead before Chadron got within 34-29.
Broc Berry, Gage Wild and Tyler Spotted Elk all scored 10 for Chadron. Isak Doty had 20 for Sidney.
