Sioux County, Nebraska Warrior, Becca Reece Finishes Near the Top at 2022 State FFA Range Judging

By Mike Kesselring

Sioux County, Nebraska Warrior, Becca Reece worked her way through Senior FFA Distric Range Judging in early September followed by NE State competion at the end of September; to finish in the top 10% out of approximatley 450 FFA participants and fellow judges. Through taking with Becca last week, I learned that FFA Rangeland Judging is a multi-step process including evaluation of life forms, life span, origin of the grasses or invasive species present, soil type, livetock forage value and potential and care such as fencing, controled burn potetial, stocking rate , etc…; all followed up with a written test. Over in Harrison we all know Becca Reece and we have enjoyed watching her grow. The first time I met Becca was at the Sioux County Fair and she had also decided to participate in a baking contest Linda and I were sponsoring.

To complete this story, Becca stopped over after volley ball practice one evening and I was impressed by the the feel that Becca has for the topic of rangeland managment. I’m a “farm kiid” from way back and from that perspective, I was also taken by the investment that Becca has in the range and farm ground in our area. Becca is the daughter of Slim and Katie Recce in Sioux County but also, Becca is someone we can all be proud of and we wish her well in future FFA projects.
