Sioux County Selects Superintendent Candidates

Loading

Sioux County Schools will interview new superintendent candidates Monday to replace Dr. Brett Gies, who is retiring at the end of this school year.

The board reviewed applications in January and February and voted last week to interview Liz Baker and Kris Freeland for the position.

Baker formerly worked in Crawford and has experience in special education and as a principal. She is in the process of seeking her superintendent endorsement. Freeland is currently an elementary principal at Dundy County-Stratton and will complete his superintendent’s endorsement in May.

“I’m excited about these two candidates,” said Robin Stevens of the Nebraska Rural Schools Association. He and former Chadron superintendent Caroline Winchester coordinated the search for the district’s next leader.

Interviews will begin at 5 p.m. Monday, with the board expected to offer a contract to one of the candidates at the end of the evening.
