The National Weather Service says what looks like fog in the Panhandle today is actually smoke from major wildfires burning in western Canada.
The most recent area forecast discussion says the smoke has pushed into the area due to northerly winds behind the main cold front that recently passed through our region.
The smoke and haze was expected to be patchy in areas north of Interstate 80 but settled in, sharply reducing air quality in this area, but it is expected to dissipate some as the day goes on.
