South Fork Fire Midday Update (6/15)

Firefighters battling the South Fork Fire near Crawford has seen containment rise to 55% and has burned 38,914 acres with 581 personnel assigned to the fire.

Firefighters spent the day Sunday focusing on the fire’s western edge in the Soldier Creek Wilderness area after additional growth Friday night due to extremely winds out of the east.

Fire managers have asked that the public not stop in the fire area or on pull-offs adjected to the fire as crews are actively working immediately south of Highway 20.

Evacuation notices have not been changed since Sunday morning with the areas west of Dodd Road and South of Cottonwood Road to Highway 20 remaining in Go status or mandatory evacuation. Residents south of Highway 20 to 4-mile road in Sioux County and Fort Robinson State Park remain under Set status or under pre-evacuation orders. The city of Crawford along with areas north and west of the fire from Toadstool Road west to Orella Road to Hat Creek Road to Pants Butte Road down to Highway 20 then north of Highland and Cottonwood Road are in Ready category which means to be aware of the situation.

Fire danger will continue to climb throughout Monday and into the middle part of the week due to warm temperatures, lower humidity’s with the strongest winds expected to come on Wednesday.
