Brehmer’s Knee Injury Not As Severe As First Believed

(Con Marshall)

The Chadron State College football team got some good news this week.  The knee injury suffered by senior safety Brendan Brehmer of Alliance in the Eagles’ season-opener apparently wasn’t as severe as originally thought and he may be able to return to action in a few weeks.

Brehmer was injured in early in the second quarter of the game on Sept. 1 against Angelo State in Texas while trying to make a tackle during an Angelo punt return.  It was believed he had sustained a torn ACL in his right knee, which would have ended his season and career.

But further diagnosis on Wednesday determined that the injury is a meniscus tear, which usually heals itself without surgery in a few weeks.

CSC Defensive Coordinator Clint Sasse said it will give the Eagles a big boost if Brehmer can return for the second half of the season because he’s one of the team’s toughest, smartest and most physical players.
