State Auditor Finds Embezzlement Evidence in Rushville

Loading

Nebraska state auditor, Mike Foley, is investigating former Rushville Housing Authority Executive Director Krystal Freeseman for allegedly embezzling thousands of dollars over 37 months from January 2021 to February 2024.

โ€œJust when you think youโ€™ve seen it all,โ€ Foley said in a statement, โ€œalong comes the former executive director of the Rushville Housing Authority who, before her recent dismissal, engaged in an apparent pattern of forgery, theft, income tax evasion, and outright embezzlement of tens of thousands of dollars in a not-so-clever and bizarre abuse of the public trustโ€.

Various financial discrepancies include nearly $10,000 in excessive self-payroll, over $2600 towards home renovations, and nearly $1700 in questionable charges using a company credit card with a grand total of $31,016.52 in potential theft.

The auditorโ€™s office recognized Freeseman reimbursed $13,179.26 after the accusations came to light. However, Mike Foley simply recited a common auditing phrase, โ€œOne cannot rob a bank on Monday and, when caught, partially repay the bank on Tuesday and expect no consequences. A robbery is a robbery.โ€

Foley and the auditorโ€™s office will now send their findings to the authorities who will conduct a full review of the evidence and take legal action if necessary.
