Steven James Brech, 57, passed away surrounded by love on April 4, 2026. He was born on
January 27, 1969, in Sturgis, South Dakota, to Darrel James Brech and Carolyn Kay Curtis.
Steven was raised in Chadron, Nebraska, where he developed a love for the outdoors and
the values of hard work and perseverance that guided him throughout his life. Growing up,
Steven enjoyed baseball, wrestling, golf and hunting with his dad. He cherished his time
helping on the family farm and pitching in alongside ranch friends as they worked their
cattle. Steven always considered himself a bitof a farm kid, and that love for the land, hard
work, and helping others remained a meaningful part of who he was.
Steven shared nearly 33 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Stacia Brech. He was a
devoted husband who treasured the life they built together. Theiryears were filled with
love, laughter, shared adventures, and unwavering support for one another. Together, they
built a life rooted in family, friendship, and the belief that they were Stronger together. Their
journey together took them to DeSmet, South Dakota; Gering, Nebraska; Riverbank,
California; and eventually Surprise, Arizona where they made their current home.
Throughout his career, Steven worked in commercial drafting. Afterworking for several
companies early in his career, he followed his entrepreneurial spirit and spent many years
self-employed, contracting his drafting services. He took great pride in his work and
earned a reputation for his Skill, precision, reliability, and strong work ethic. Wherever life
took him, Steven built lasting friendships and was respected by colleagues, neighbors, and
friends alike.
Steven was a proud father to his three children, Ashley, Makenna, and Camden, who were
the center of his world. Nothing brought him greater joythan spending time with his family,
supporting his children, and creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Steven loved sports and enjoyed following his favorite teams. He was passionate about
football, proudly cheering on the Nebraska Cornhuskers and the Green Bay Packers. He
rarely missed a game and enjoyed the excitement, tradition, and camaraderie that came
with being a loyal fan. He especially enjoyed the friendly rivalries that came with being a
devoted football fan and was always ready to give those who supported opposing teams a
little good-natured teasing.
Known for his big heart, Steven was the kind of person who would help anyone in need-he
knew no strangers. His willingness to lend a hand was a quality that followed him
throughout his life, from helping on the family farm and pitching in with ranch friends as a
young man, to supporting family, friends, and those around him as an adult. Steven valued
the friendships he built throughout his life and had a gift for making people feel welcome
and appreciated. Those closest to him will remember his ornery sense of humor, playful
teasing, and the laughter he brought into their lives. His selflessness, warmth, and genuine
care for others left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Steven is survived by his beloved wife, Stacia Brech; his mother, Carolyn Brech; his
children, Ashley (Alex) Wurm, Makenna Brech, and Camden Brech; his sisters, Sandy (Tony)
Anderson and Sheila (Dennis) Lynch; along with extended family and many friends who
loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his father, Darrel Brech.
Steven will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal friend, and a
compassionate soul whose memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all
who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
A memorial service to celebrate Steven’s life will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in
Chadron, Nebraska on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at 11 :OOa.m. A gathering with family
and friends will follow in the church hall, with a light lunch provided.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Breakthrough Tl D,
formerly known as the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, in honor of Steven. Having
been diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 5, Steven understood the challenges
faced by children and families living with this diagnosis and had a special compassion for
those walking a similar journey
