Storm Keeps NSP Troopers Busy

Loading

Last week’s statewide winter storm kept the troopers of the Nebraska State Patrol extremely busy.

Superintendent Colonel John Bolduc says his agency responded to more than 400 weather-related incidents on Wednesday and Thursday.

Troopers responded to 42 crashes and 385 motorist assists, mostly slide-offs or drivers who got stranded in the snow.

Colonel Bolduc says things would have been worse if not for the fact that many people “made the choice to stay off the roads during the worst part of the snowstorm. Unfortunately, the number of incidents increased once the snow stopped falling.”

Bolduc says he’s proud of the hard work by troopers and dispatchers to help keep people safe during the storm.

.He also reminds all motorists to have a winter emergency kit in their vehicle during the winter months, and to always remember to visit 511.Nebraska.gov or check the Nebraska 511 app for updated road conditions along their route.

Any driver who needs help on the road can call the NSP Highway Helpline at *55 to speak directly with an NSP dispatcher.
