The team at Niobrara National Scenic River is so excited for summer, not only because it means we get to get back on the river but because of all the fun summer programs we have planned, including Junior Angler fishing clinics, Night Sky events, and Junior Ranger programs at Smith Falls State Park!
We kick off our summer events with a fishing clinic June 22, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Keller State Park. If you can’t make it out, no worries. We will have two more fishing clinics throughout the summer: July 20th at Norden Chute from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and August 3, 2024, at Cub Creek State Recreation Area from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Our Summer Fishing Clinics are geared toward youth of all ages and are a great way to learn about fishing. Thanks to funding from the National Park Foundation, participants under 12 receive free fishing poles to take home, and older participants are welcome to check out poles from the gear library!
For those who appreciate the beauty of the night sky, we invite you to our night sky events on June 22, 2024, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Keller State Park and August 31, 2024, from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Norden Chute. Our area boasts one of the darkest skies, offering a breathtaking view of the night sky. Join us to learn more and observe it through telescopes!
Calling all young adventurers! Come and join the Niobrara National Scenic River rangers to become a Junior Ranger. Starting in June, our park rangers will be at Smith Falls State Park boardwalk most Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. They’ll be ready with engaging activities on the Niobrara Watershed and with Junior Rangers badges and hats for all participants. Junior Ranger programs are a great chance to learn, explore, and have fun in the park!
