Sunset Star Yellow Bird-Bad Wound was born on January 22, 1978 in Pine Ridge, SD to Robert Yellow Bird-Steele and JoAnn Cross. Sunset Star made her journey to the Spirit World on December 1, 2023 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Sunset Star is survived by her spouse Daniel Bad Wound; children Andrew Zintkala Zi, Andrew Marshall, Eavette Zintkala Zi, LaKeisha Zintkala Zi, and Randi Marshall-Bad Wound; brothers Clinton Zintkala Zi, Buffalo Zintkala Zi, Wambli Zintkala Zi, Charles Zintkala Zi, and Wesley Cross; sisters Robin Zintkala Zi and Jennifer Garneaux; grandchildren Nicholas Lee Sedillo, Joel Walker-Roy Soesbe, Elijah Markelle Bad Wound, Grim Rock Bear Shield, and Amara Marie Allen; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, & nephews.
Sunset Star was preceded in death by her parents Robert Zintkala Zi-Steele and JoAnn Cross; brother Robert Zintkala Zi Jr; sister Baby Zintkala Zi; grandparents Ella Bissonette-Cross, Frank Cross, John Yellow Bird-Steele, Sarah Pawnee Leggins, and Charles Zintkala Zi-Steele; aunts Mary Exendine, Alice Two Bulls, Cleo Herrera, Faith Zintkala Zi-Watson, Myla Zintkala Zi-Steele, Sandra Zintkala Zi-Steele, and Linda Zintkala Zi-Steele; uncles Sage Young, Dennis Zintkala Zi-Steele, Richard Zintkala Zi-Steele; and niece Aliya LaBelle James.
Pallbearers will be Lester Fly, Desmond Bad Wound, Randy Marshall, Maruice DuBray, and Marcus DuBray.
