SWANN, the Solid Waste Agency of Northwest Nebraska, received 28-tons of used tires Wednesday to open a 3-day extension of last weekend’s Tire Amnesty Days.
Executive Director Jake Stewart says that leaves SWANN able to accept another 12-tons before reaching the 175-ton limit of the state grant that’s funding the amnesty days, which are scheduled to continue until Friday or the limit is reached.
101-tons came in last Friday, but only 24-tons were received Saturday – leaving the agency able to receive another 40-tons.
The state approved reopening the effort for 3 more days this week and Stewart is optimistic of getting the final 12-tons in today. He reminds SWANN customers that no more tires will be accepted after the limit is reached – whether that’s today or tomorrow.
Since each load of tires must be weighed, the collection point is the scales at the Chadron Transfer Station with tires received during the transfer station’s regular hours of 8-5:00.
