It took just 2 hours this morning for SWANN, the Solid Waste Agency of Northwest Nebraska to collect the final 12-tons of used tires to meet the 175-ton limit of the state grant it received to allow customers to dispose of tires without charge.
Executive Director Jake Stewart says Tire Amnesty Days were initially scheduled for just last Friday and Saturday, but when Saturday ended 40-tons short of the maximum, the state granted SWANN an additional 3 days.
It took just 2 days with 28 tons coming yesterday and the final 12 tons by 10:00 this morning.
Stewart says SWANN sends out a big “thank you” to all its customers in Dawes, Sioux, and Sheridan Counties and the Village of Hemingford for their support of Tire Amnesty Days.
Stewart says customers were polite and understanding of the entire process and that he and the SWANN staff can’t thank everyone enough.
He adds that they’re looking forward to getting another grant – probably in 2 years – to offer another round of Tire Amnesty Days with fee-free disposal of old tires.
