SWANN, the Solid Waste Agency of Northwest Nebraska, took in fewer used tires than expected during last week’s Tire Amnesty Days, but the state has granted an extension for 3 more amnesty days.
SWANN Executive Director Jake Stewart says the state grant was for a maximum of 175-tons of tires, but after 101-tons were brought in Friday, only 34-tons came in on Saturday – leaving the total 40-tons shy of the goal.
Stewart says the state has given SWANN another 3 days to collect the remaining 40-tons allowed under the grant, and they’ll do it Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
As on the first 2 days, the only collection point will be the Chadron Transfer Station and the hours will be 8-5:00. No more tires will be accepted after the 40 tons is reached.
All tires must be off their rims and the limits on the number of tires a person can bring in remains the same as last week.
Each non-commercial SWANN customer can bring in up to 20 car and light truck tires, 20 truck/trailer tires, and 10 large ag or equipment tires fir a total of 50 per customer – all without charge
