The 64th Chadron Kiwanis Club Honors Program recognizing the community’s outstanding high school students is this afternoon at 1:300 in the Chadron High School Auditorium. It’s free and open to the public.

Among those being honored are all Chadron High students with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 or who made the Gold Honor Roll, which requires a 3.65 GPA or higher.

Also being honored are the members of the Chadron High Honor Society, the Kiwanis Hugh O’Brien Seminar delegates, and the recipients of the Rotary Club’s Youth Leadership Awards.

The featured speaker is former Nebraska football All-American and current CEO of the TeamMates mentoring program Demoine Adams. A motivational speaker and artist, he is currently pursuing a doctorate at UNL in Leadership, Motivation, and Sociology.

Adams is also the last speaker in this year’s Graves Lecture Series at Chadron State College and will speak tonight at 7:00 in the Mari Sandoz Center.

His presentation tonight is titled “All-American: From Social Capital to Cultural Capital,” and is a combination of his life journey, the state of society, and the value of diversity and inclusion.

Adams was a three-year starting defensive end for the Cornhuskers and led the team in sacks and helped win the Big 12 conference championship in 1999. He was also an Academic All-American.

Adams went on to play in the NFL with the Green Bay Packers, Tennessee Titans, and San Francisco 49ers and in the CFL with the Edmonton Eskimos.

Former Husker Hall of Fame Coach Dr Tom Osborne, who began the Teammates program, selected Adams as its CEO in 2021 when it celebrated its 30th anniversary.  His Graves Lecture talk at 7:00 in the Sandoz Center is free and open to the public.
