A jury in Cheyenne has convicted a Cheyenne teen of 2nd-degree murder in an April drive-by shooting in a park that left a 15-year old girl dead.

17-year-old Johnny Munoz was tried as an adult and faces 20 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced for the death of Baylee Carabajal-Clark. A date won’t be set until his pre-sentence investigation report is completed

Testimony during the trial put Munoz in the passenger seat of an SUV driven by 16-year-old Julian Espinoza and with 3 adult men in the backseat on the morning of April 30

Prosecutors said Munoz opened fire on an extended family and friends group playing and watching basketball, with one shot hitting the girl in the head.

A male juvenile returned fire, but failed to hit the SUV. Carabajal-Clark was taken to the hospital, but died the next day.

Investigators found 14 spent 9MM shell casings in the grass north of the basketball court and 4 spent .380 shell casings along the north side of the street. They believe Joey Carabajal Jr, the dead girl’s cousin, was the intended target due to a pending criminal case.Â
