Terry Lee Steinacher was born Sept 1, 1943 and died June 7, 2024, at his home.
Terry graduated from Milligan High School in 1961 and went on to receive his Bachelor and Masters degrees in Anthropology from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and a PhD in Archaeology from the University of Oklahoma.
Terry was commissioned as a lieutenant in the U-S Air Force and was later promoted to Captain. He served as an intelligence officer in Vietnam.
Terry joined the Nebraska State Historical Society, now History Nebraska, in 1986 and never left.
He spent most of his career as the Nebraska State Historical Preservationist with his office at Fort Robinson. He resided in Crawford, appreciating the beauty and history of the land.
Terry enjoyed his books (especially history), his extensive and varied music collection, and travels to Europe and Egypt, but enjoyed most of all his golfing with Jim and Taylor and anyone else up to the challenge.
Terry gifted us with his goodness, generous spirit, and wry, dry sense of humor – and he was humble enough to call his little sister when encountering technical issues (usually got a good answer).
A man of few words, yet he spoke volumes, he will forever be missed.
Terry was preceded in death by parents Norman and Ethel (Chasdek) Steinacher.
He is survived by his sister Carole (Dawn) Steinacher, and cousins and good friends Jim Miller and Taylor Morava.
Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements for Terry Steinacher.
