While yesterday was the official Thanksgiving Day holiday, today is also a day off for most government workers. Some have it built into law while others have done it through contract negotiations.
In Nebraska, state and county workers have the day off because federal employees do, too. Cities aren’t required to follow suit, but the vast majority do because so many workers didn’t want to come back for just 1 day after Thanksgiving.
There are a few exceptions. Post offices are open and there is mail delivery while the Chadron Area Aquatic and Wellness Center will also be open from 1-7 both today and tomorrow with hours of 1-6 on Sunday.
