Loading

The Chadron State College production of The Revolutionists, a general comic look at the French Revolution from a feminist perspective, opens its two-weekend run tonight in the Memorial Hall Black Box Theater.

Curtain times are 7:00 tonight through Saturday night plus next Saturday night, and at 2:00 the next two Sundays. Tickets are free, but should be reserved on the Theatre web page to guarantee seating.

The Revolutionists are four women, 3 historical figures and one fictional, living in France during the revolution that ran from 1789 to 1799. The play is set in 1793.

The real characters are playwright Olympe De Gouges, assassin Charlotte Corday, and deposed queen Marie Antoinette while rebel Marianne Angelle is a composite of several individuals from that period.

The Revolutionists is described as a “grand and dream-tweaked comedy about violence and legacy, art and activism, feminism and terrorism, compatriots, and chosen sisters who go about changing the world.”
