A third fatal accident related to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally was reported Thursday on Interstate 90.
A 61-year-old male was killed when he hit a 2008 GMC Yukon head-on with his 2004 Harley Davidson. The South Dakota Highway Patrol said the man was traveling eastbound on I-90 but in the westbound lanes. No one in the Yukon was injured.
There were three fatal accidents during the same period of the Rally last year.
Injury and non-injury accidents were up over 2022 through Thursday, with 32 non-injury accidents reported and 41 crashes resulting in injuries.
Drug arrests, for both misdemeanor and felony offenses, are up over last year with 151 misdemeanor arrests reported and 119 felony arrests. Driving under the influence arrests tallied at 79, down from 97 last year. Law enforcement has issued 2,715 citations, down from 3,253 during the same period last year. Just over $2,000 in cash has been seized.
