This Is Public Transit Awareness Week

This is Public Transit Awareness Week and the Chadron Handibus is holding special activities and themes each day. Today’s theme is Save Gas – Hitch A Ride on the Bus.

Starting today and running all week is the Stuff The Bus Canned Food Drive with the bus at the parking lot along 3rd St/Hwy across the street from Safeway between FNBO and Nebraska Bank. All canned goods collected will go to local food pantries.

There’s also a Kids Coloring Contest with the first 100 entries receiving a toke from one of 5 local eating choices: Arby’s, Maverick, Pizza Hut, Runza, or Subway. The coloring contest winners will be announced on Friday.

Tuesday is Take A Picture of the Bus with everyone encouraged to take a picture of the bus or a selfie while riding the bus. Text your photos and selfies to 308-432-0520 to have them put on Chadron Public Transportation’s website and Facebook page.

On Wednesday, everyone who rides the Chadron Handibus will get a free cookie while being encouraged to tell the drivers how amazing they are on Show Our Drivers “Big Love” Day. The drivers are getting healthy snacks on Tuesday and lunch on Wednesday.

Thursday is Test Your Knowledge Day with a crossword or word-find puzzle and giveaways for passengers.

Public Transit Awareness Week activities in Chadron conclude Friday with Driver Appreciation Day with all the Handibus drivers being honored for their smiles and service.

Friday is also Funny Hat Day with all passengers encouraged to wear their funniest or most-creative hat and take pictures that can be texted to 308-432-0520 for posting on the Chadron Public Transportation website or Facebook page.
