South Dakota U-S Senator John Thune, #2 in the Republican Senate leadership, is taking something of a middle position on the Justice Department’s raid last week of former President Donald Trump’s Florida complex.
Thune told reporters in Sioux Falls on Tuesday that the Justice Department has shown it followed legal protocols in obtaining the search warrant, but needs to release more information about it.
Thune said the DOJ’s reticence to offer details about the Trump investigation has caused people to question law enforcement’s motives.
Thune said “There’s just a lot of unanswered questions that, left to a vacuum, create lots of suspicions among the American people, and the one thing you don’t want is people not trusting law enforcement.”
