Chadron PD Makes Drug Arrest In Walmart Parking Lot

A tired and confused traveler sleeping in his rental car in the Walmart parking lot was arrested by Chadron police Sunday afternoon after telling officers he’d recently taken heroin and that remnants of other drugs might be in the car as well.

Officers Mark Cloyd and Sam Cafferty responded to a report of a man who’d been parked at Walmart for several hours, apparently sleeping but who couldn’t be awakened by well-meaning passersby.

Officers Cloyd and Cafferty were successful in waking up 39-year old Joshua Stoll, who said he’s recently arrived from Nevada. Stoll appeared confused, telling the officers he thought he was still in Nevada and recounting his heroin use.

He was detained by police while his vehicle was searched. Officers found used  syringes under the driver’s and in the glove box that tested positive for methamphetamine with unused syringes in the cargo area.

Officers also located drug paraphernalia and less than an ounce of marijuana in the cargo area of the vehicle, both Infractions under Nebraska State Law.

Stoll was taken to the Chadron Community Hospital for mental and physical evaluation, then transported to the Dawes County Jail where he was booked for the felony charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance. Bond was set at $10,000.
