Two Nebraska Prison Inmates Die After Being Hospitalized For COVID

       The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services says two inmates, one of them serving a sentence from the Panhandle, died Thursday in a Lincoln hospital after having tested positive for COVID-19.

     The department declined to give either inmate’s name or cause of death, citing privacy issues even though it routinely releases the names of inmates who die in custody. 

      The first inmate to die was in his 50s and was serving a sentence from Box Butte County for child pornography.

     The second man was in his 40’s and serving sentences for 2nd-degree murder, theft, and a weapons charge out of Douglas County  Both men reportedly had underlying medical conditions.
