Wyoming authorities say the crashes of two private planes Sunday in the Laramie area had very different outcomes.

A female pilot flying alone from British Columbia, Canada, to Florida was unharmed when her plane went down around 2:30 about 10 miles east of Laramie along Interstate 80, but 2 people died in the other crash, which occurred about 30 miles west of Laramie.

Albany County Sheriff Aaron Appelhans says Denver International Airport contacted his office about 11:45 Sunday morning to report radar and air traffic controllers had lost contact with the plane.

The wreckage was spotted in the Dutton Creek Road area with Sheriff Appelhans describing it as “a remote location away from any notable landmarks. He says both the pilot and lone passenger were apparently killed in the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are leading the investigations into both crashes. Initial reports are normal released within a few weeks, but probable cause findings generally take 12-to-18 months to complete.
