Tyrell Yankton

The family of Tyrell Coy Yankton, “Tasunke Wamni Omni Najin,” is saddened to announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, and father.  Tyrell was born on July 27, 1994 in Pine Ridge, SD to Creighton Yankton, Jr and Dawn Hernandez-Yankton.  Tyrell made his journey to the Spirit World on May 12, 2026 in Chadron, NE.

Tyrell loved the outdoors and riding horses with friends and family.  His Lakota name is “Tasunke Wamni Omni Najin”, “His Horse is a Whirlwind Standing.”  When he was around 11 years old he started participating in the Big Foot Rides with his dad, family members and friends.  He also participated in the Crazy Horse Ride and the Battle of the Little Big Horn Ride and participated in the ride with his dad, family and friends.  He participated in horse games and races on the reservation in the summer at different events.  He participated on the ride for the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of the San Francisco Bay Area and made many new friends, he crossed the Golden Gate Bridge with them. He loved going to his Grandma Joyce’s home and being with her.  He liked to cook for her, talk and laugh with all his cousins.  He enjoyed going around to all his relatives’ homes to say “Hi” and visit.  He helped others more than himself.

Tyrell is survived by his dad, Creigton W. Wake Services: Two night wake service starting at 4:00 PM, Sunday, May 24, 2026 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, South Dakota.  Services starting at 7:00 PM, each night with Rosary services held Monday, May 25, 2026

Funeral Services: 1:00 PM, Tuesday, May 26, 2026 at the Wounded Knee District School in Manderson, South Dakota
