The Pine Ridge Ranger District of the Nebraska National Forest And Grasslands has closed one of its roads south of Chadron to the public for the rest of this week and at least part of next week.
U-S Forest Service spokesperson Erin Considine says Road 723 has been closed for safety reasons because of logging operations.
She expects it to reopen for the Memorial Day weekend at dusk on Friday, then to close again on Monday.
Considine also says that while the logging is scheduled to finish early next week, Road 723 may remain closed a little longer as road graders and gravel trucks will be restoring and enhancing the road.
If Road 723 is opened during that work, drivers could face delays of up to 30 minutes. Considine says the Forest Service apologizes for any inconveniences.
