Update: Crews Working Two Fires South Of Crawford, Sioux County Fire Extinguished

Loading

Crawford and Chadron fire crews were working on two separate fires in Dawes County Monday evening, both in areas south of Crawford.

Pine Ridge District Ranger Tim Buskirk said earlier on Monday that he had a crew responding to a fire at an area just off of the Nebraska National Forest and Grasslands north of Belmont, but by 7:00 pm had been released and allowed to return home.

The exact location of the second fire is unknown.

Earlier on Monday fires were reported in Sioux County. Harrison fire chief Slim Reece said that a fire called in on River Road, west of the Marsland area in Sioux County, was handled by the Hemingford fire department with assistance from Harrison and was then turned back over to the landowner.

Reece also says that smoke was reported on Andrews Road southeast of Harrison but a fire was never found.

One fire in rural Dawes County early Monday afternoon was quickly extinguished by rains that accompanied Monday’s thunderstorms.

Once more information becomes available regarding either fire in Dawes County we will pass that information along.
