Vestana Red Ear Horse

Graveside services for 81-year old Vestana Red Ear Horse are Sat, Nov 28, 2020 at 12:30 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Cemetery, Lakeside Community near Oglala, SD, with Sister Barb officiating and traditional Lakota services by Mr Roger White Eyes

Visitation precedes the services from 10:00 to Noon at the Sioux Funeral Home in Pine Ridge, SD

Vestana Maxine Red Ear Horse was born on April 14, 1939 in Pine Ridge, SD to Stephan Red Ear Horse, Sr. and Hazel Wounded Horse-Blacksmith. Vestana made her journey to the Spirit World on November 20, 2020 at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.

Vestana graduated from the 8th grade at Loneman School and was a graduate of OCHS/Pine Ridge High School in 1958.  After high school, she received a certificate from Red Cross Home Nursing “Home Care of the Sick.”  Vestana was employed at Pine Ridge Hospital in the Emergency Room Department, Pine Ridge Community Health Representative (CHR), Loneman School Nurse, and Pine Ridge High School Girls Dorm.  Vestana retired from work in 1984.  She loved all of her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and children.  Mom will be greatly missed and memories of her will be in our hearts forever.

Vestana is survived by her daughters, Donna Red Ear Horse, Wendy Backs, Cydney Fast Wolf, Nicole “Holley” Not Help Him, Muriel Lakota and Elledonna Fast Wolf; sons, Robert “Bob” Brave Heart, Sr. and Vance Blacksmith; siblings, Christine Lajtay, Fleta Two Bulls and Alex (Mary) Hurder of Murfreesboro, TN; and grandchildren, David “Rix” Fast Wolf, Taylor Fast Wolf, Zac He Crow, Jason Youngman, Jack Sioux Bob, Caitlyn Not Help Him, Jayda Not Help Him, Paisley New Holy, Connor Brave Heart and Murrphy Brave Heart.

Vestana was preceded in death by her parents, Stephan Red Ear Horse, Sr. and Hazel Wounded Horse-Blacksmith; stepfather, Max Blacksmith; sisters, Melvina Backs, Mercy Slow Bear, Lorna Blacksmith and Philomine Lakota; brothers, Eugene Red Ear Horse, Stephan Red Ear Horse, Jr. and Aloysius Blacksmith; daughter, Jolene Fast Wolf; grandson, Corey Not Help Him; and nephews, Nason “Jay” Backs, Jr., Alvin Slow Bear and Steve Slow Bear.

Pallbearers will be Tunweya Weller, Miles Marshall, Teton Lakota, NuVassie Blacksmith, Amery Brave Heart, Lloyd Bianas, Bailey One Horn and Sean Weller.
