The Village of Whitney has issued a mandatory Boil Water order after the town’s water system failed a regular test for bacteria.
Whitney spokesperson Carol Connell says the order is a precaution with no reports at this time of any ill customers. The Boil Water order will remain in effect until the water system has 2 consecutive clean tests.
Whitney gets its water from Dawes County Rural Water District #1, which yesterday said it was searching for a leak somewhere in its system. Connell says it’s likely the leak led to the failed village test.
A failed test doesn’t mean the water is unsafe, only that it might be. Rural customers of Rural Water District #1 may want to boil their water as a precaution.
