The family of Wanda Rae Cross Dog, “Canupa Waste Win”, is saddened to announce the passing of our beloved sister, mother, and grandmother. Wanda was born on September 23, 1965, in Pine Ridge, SD to Lincoln Cross Dog Sr. and Florence Walks Out-Cross Dog. Wanda made her journey to the Spirit World on May 19, 2026, at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, South Dakota.
Wanda had a fulfilling life, filled with love and adventure. She graduated from Holy Rosary Mission in 1982 and went on to further her education from Northern State University, earning her Master’s Degree. She was avid pool player, joining pool leagues, a basketball player and enjoyed fast pitch baseball and would play in tournaments when she had the chance. She was a dedicated employee, having served four years at the Loneman Day School before starting her career journey with the Oglala Sioux Tribe. Wanda dedicated over 32 years to the OST Secretary’s Office serving 16 administrations and gaining a wealth of knowledge.
Wanda is survived by her children, Raymond Black Elk, Amanda Black Elk, Tabitha Black Elk, Katrina Black Elk, Grey Cross Dog, Catherine White Eyes, Oleta White Eyes, Tyger Cortier, Michelle Poor Thunder, Carl Cortier, Tina Siers, Nellie (Danielle) Carpio, Mitchell Crow; her siblings, Chet Cross Dog Sr, William Cross Dog, Ronald Cross Dog Sr, Rex Crow, Marilyn Cross Dog, Milton Cross Dog, Carol Lakota; grandchildren, Ayiannah Jane Black Elk, Jordan Rahyn Black Elk, Saphron Wolfe, Draven Wolfe, Winter Wolfe, Jessyk Chase, Floren Crusade Cross Dog, Memoree Lane Cross Dog, Eldon Joel Cross Dog Jr., Khaleesi Elsa Lame, Kida Elora Lame, Gracelynn Lame, Nymeria Brave, Rhys Arredondo, Ruriko Black Elk, Raya Black Elk, Persephone Black Elk, Carl William White Eyes III, Solarah Thunder Hawk, Loki Hairy Chin, Matisse White Eyes, Sincere White Eyes, Julian White Eyes, Calani White Eyes, Iwoblu Crow, Joseph Bernie, Michael LeBeau Jr, Jonah Siers, Nina Siers, Jacqueline Her Many Horses, Dontae Carpio, Kaydence “Ida” Carpio, Kristine Carpio, Chanel Coomes, Chloe Coomes, Tyrell Coomes, Landen Coomes, Layla Coomes, Marcelo Black Elk, Noveiya Black Elk, Aermiyus Black Elk; nieces and nephews, Theodore Coomes Jr, Nikki Coomes, Roger Bettelyoun.
Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, Lincoln Cross Dog Sr and Florence (Walks Out) Cross Dog; her siblings, Linn Cross Dog, Lincoln Cross Dog Jr, John Cross Dog Sr, Ceasar Cross Dog, Oleta Cross Dog, Flora Cross Dog, Bradley Cross Dog; grandkids, Kaleb Siers and Taeton Coomes.
Pallbearers will be Dane Arredondo, Devin Arredondo, Lewis Belt, Kelly Brave, Teresa “Tess” Yellow Horse, Aaron Dreamer, Al Dreamer Jr, Todd Dreamer, Beau Dreamer, and Eric Little Hawk.
