Loading

Sioux County started post-holiday action with its first win of the season on the hardwood, inching past Banner County 40-35 Tuesday night.

The Warrior boys went five of 11 at the charity stripe in the fourth quarter to hold off the Wildcats. The final three minutes of the contest saw the score tied at 31, 32 and 34 as the teams traded buckets.

The game was tight from the outset, with Sioux County leading 7-6 after one quarter and up 14-12 at half. The Warriors stretched their lead to six after the break only to see Banner County fight back to within four at the start of the final quarter. The final eight minutes were the most productive for both teams, but Sioux County’s 14-13 run was enough to hand them the victory.

Logan Monroe led the Warriors with 13 points, followed by William Skavdahl with 10. Shane Gluth netted seven, while Josh Perez and Jack Hunter each added five. Gluth, Skavdahl and Hunter had the final four points from the charity stripe to clinch the win.

Sioux County will take on Edgemont Saturday in Harrison.
