Fire Departments along Highway 20 made a cooperative effort to extinguish a house fire that broke out on the north side of Hay Springs on Sunday. Hay Springs Rescue Captain Holly Scherbarth called for mutual aid assistance from the Rushville and Chadron Fire Departments shortly before the noon hour.
After approximately two hours of fighting the blaze, units were released from the scene shortly before two o’clock that afternoon.
According to Scherbarth, although the incident is being investigated by the Fire Marshal’s Investigation Office, it is believed the fire was caused by a welding spark and the house is a total loss.
