It is with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life beautifully lived that we announce the passing of Wesley Dean Running Bear, a beloved son, father, brother, partner, and friend.  Wesley passed away on June 5, 2026, in the warm embrace of his family, leaving behind a legacy of love, creativity, and boundless inspiration. He was 49 years old.

Wesley was born on March 25, 1977, in the quaint town of Broken Bow, Nebraska, to parents Elizabeth June Gibbons and Melvin Richard Running Bear. From a young age, Wesley exhibited a unique artistic talent, a gift that he would nurture throughout his life, bringing beauty and connection to those around him.

He attended Kearney High School, graduating in 1996, and went on to refine his artistic skills by studying Digital Illustration at the University of Nebraska at Kearney. Wesley’s passion for art was not just a career but a calling, one that would see him touch countless lives through his creativity and vision.

In 2012, Wesley founded Strength N Pride Apparel, a company that became a symbol of his artistic spirit and dedication. As the Head Designer, Wesley’s innovative designs and passion for storytelling through imagery brought together a community of individuals united by a shared appreciation for art and culture. His work, particularly in digital illustration and tattoo art, reflected his deep connection to his roots and his desire to express the beauty and resilience of the human spirit.

His adventurous spirit led him to explore the world, traveling to places like Albuquerque, New Mexico; California; and Colorado, where he soaked up inspiration from the landscapes and cultures he encountered. His travels and experiences enriched his life and art, fueling his creativity and sense of wonder.

Wesley had an unyielding love for Punk Rock and Heavy Metal music, which often provided the soundtrack to his life and creative process. His love for music was as much a part of him as his art, inspiring those around him to embrace their true selves

Wesley’s legacy will forever be cherished by his loving partner, Cicely Sutton, and his children, Mary, Danika, Tehya, Emily, Kaileena, and Paisley. He was a devoted father whose love knew no bounds, and his guidance and warmth will continue to inspire his children as they carry forward his spirit of creativity and kindness. Wesley was also a cherished brother to Sonya Bullman, Derek Running Bear, and Deana Running Bear, and Jared EagleBull, who fondly remember his laughter, wisdom, and unwavering support.

The joy of Wesley’s life was further enriched by his five grandchildren, who were his pride and joy. His love for them was limitless, and he delighted in sharing stories, art, music and laughter with them, leaving behind memories that will be treasured forever.

Wesley is preceded in death by his cherished daughter, Sydney Running Bear, his beloved mother, Elizabeth Gibbons, his grandparents, Marlin and Pauline Haddix, Richard and Zelda Running Bear and Oldest Brother Timothy Andrew Gibbons. Their memories have always been a guiding light in Wesley’s life, and he is now reunited with them in peace.

Wesley’s life was a testament to the power of art to unite and heal. He lived to create, and his work brought many together, bridging gaps and fostering understanding through the universal language of art. His legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched, the art he created, and the love he shared so freely.

Pallbearers will be Ron Marshall, Nick Gibbons, Nick Grimes, Wakinyan Running Bear, Ian Running Bear, Antonio Marshall, Xavier Running Bear and Doug Stone.
