WESTCO has donated $40,000 to the Alliance Fire Department as a way of saying “thank you” for its efforts against the late June fire that destroyed the WESTCO Tire Center in Alliance.
WESTCO General Manager David Briggs says while the fire destroyed the building, firefighters were able to isolate the blaze and prevent further loss of equipment and materials.
Briggs was able to secure a $20,000 grant to help the Alliance Fire Department with some of its needs, including replacing equipment damaged in the fire, with WESTCO providing a dollar-for-dollar match to bring the total to $40,000.
Fire Chief Troy Shoemaker says he and all the firefighters are “very humbled by WESTCO’s overwhelming generosity, adding that they’ve always had a great relationship with the cooperative.
Shoemaker points to WESTCO staff members helping the fire department with training in such areas as grain bin rescues and propane emergencies.
