The Western Wildlife Art Show opens its 50th anniversary season today at Fort Robinson State Park with some 20 artists showing and selling their works for the next 3 days.
Admission is free with hours of 9-7 today and tomorrow, 9-5 on July 4th.
Local, regional, and out of state artists must apply and be invited by the Art Show board of directors, guaranteeing top quality each year. There are normally 2 dozen artists, but 3 had to drop out at the last minute this year for various personal and family reasons.
Highlights of the show are the “Chairman’s Choice” winner, who becomes the “Featured Artist” for the following year, the “Best of Show” chosen by a judge from outside the show, and “People’s Choice” voted on by patrons of the show.
Special for kids is the Children’s Wall of Art Contest, tomorrow from 10:00-Noon. Competition is in age groups for young artists 2 to 18 years old.
There is a small fee for materials and all artwork will be created on site with no supervision from parents – only support. Awards will be presented at 1:00 to 3 winners from each age group.
