The Chadron State College Theater Department opens its latest production tonight, the musical adaptation of the book Working.

Performances in the Black Box Theater on the 2nd floor of Memorial Hall are tonight-Saturday night at 7:00 and Sunday at 2:00

Cast member Levi O’Dell says Working was adapted in 1977 by Stephen Schwartz and Nina Faso from Studs Terkel’s best-selling 1974 book of interviews with American workers.

Fellow cast member Jarret Buchholz says it’s hard to define what kind of show Working is beyond the general tag of a musical.

The Black Box Theater is an intimate setting with about 80 seats that can be arranged on 2, 3 or 4 sides of the actors.

Working is the first musical to be staged there and Levi O’Dell says it’s a good choice since it has only 6 cast members, each filling multiple roles.

There were some technical challenges to staging a musical in the Black Box and some of those issues forced the cancellation of last week’s planned opening and the adding of performances tonight and Sunday to the original schedule.

Admission to Working is free, but the limited seating in the Black Box Theater means that reservations are recommended.

They may be reserved online at csc.edu/academics/theatre/seatreservation/
