Wrestling Roundup: Chadron Places Two In Cozad; Crawford & Hay Springs Medal In Mullen

Chadron’s Quinn Bailey captured the championship at 152-lbs and Rhett Cullers claimed runner-up at 182-lbs at the Cozad Invite on Saturday.

Bailey pinned his way to the semifinals in times of 1:58 and 2:28 but needed a 5-3 decision over Brock Malcolm of Cozad to get into the title match. Bailey pulled out gold with a 9-3 win over Elijah Johnson of Hastings.

Cullers had a pin in 1:52 in his quarterfinal and won his semifinal over Patrick McCarthey of Sidney with a 7-0 decision. In the championship match Cullers lost by major decision to Issac White of Coazd 13-2.

Bailey and Cullers were the only Cardinal wrestlers to come away with medals on Saturday.

Chadron will host Gordon-Rushville and Valentine in a triangular on Thursday night.

Hay Springs and Crawford each had a placer at Saturday’s Mullen Invite.

Hay Springs’ Jahrett Anderson pinned his quarterfinal and semifinal opponents before being dropped in the championship by Jayden Klein of North Platte St. Pat’s in :41-seconds to place 2nd at 113-lbs.

Paden Morava got bumped into the consolation bracket after a loss in the quarterfinals but battled back to the 3rd place match and lost 9-7 to Sam Titus of Ainsowrth.

Crawford will host Hay Springs and Lakota Tech in a triangular on Monday.
