A bill removing exemptions for rape and incest from Wyoming’s on-hold near-total abortion law was narrowly sent to the House floor this week.
HB 152, the “Life is a Human Right Act,” passed the House Judiciary Committee 5-4.
The bill is intended to replace the current Wyoming abortion “trigger law” passed last year in anticipation of the U-S Supreme Court overturning Roe v Wade, which it did.
That law was challenged in court just as it was taking effect and blocked by a temporary order from a district judge that remains in effect while the challenge proceeds through the courts.
While it outlaws abortion, the challenged law does contain exemptions for pregnancies stemming from rape or incest, which HB 152 does not.
